Mission Series:  Asclepius

Medicina Pro Nobis Futurum -- "Medicine for Our Future”

The Asclepius Mission Series will be designed to address pharmacological concerns pertaining to human sexual/reproductive health in space. Asclepius was the ancient Greek god of medicine and healing, born to Apollo, god of the Sun, and a mortal woman named Koronis.  He was said to have been raised by the wise centaur Chiron, who taught him the art of medicine and healing.  Asclepius is often depicted as holding a serpent-entwined staff, still recognizable as a symbol for medicine today.

The Asclepius missions will conduct experiments on the efficacy of pharmaceutical and nutritional compounds in space environments related to human sexual health and reproduction. These experiments will include studies on hormonal birth control, as well as nutritional elements known to bolster human sexual performance and/or fertility on Earth, among others.
